The Federal Reserve’s latest survey of bank lending conditions contains an important message for business owners planning to seek capital during the second half of 2026.
More companies are looking for financing, but banks have not broadly relaxed the standards they use to approve borrowers.
According to the Federal Reserve’s July 2026 Senior Loan Officer Opinion Survey, banks reported stronger demand for commercial and industrial loans from large and middle-market companies during the second quarter. Demand from small businesses remained generally unchanged.
Banks also reported that their core credit standards for commercial and industrial loans remained basically unchanged across companies of all sizes.
Some lending terms improved. Banks reported narrower loan spreads and, for certain larger borrowers, increases in the maximum size of available credit lines. Those changes may benefit well-qualified companies, but they do not indicate that lenders have stopped evaluating risk carefully.
Capital is available. Approval, however, still depends on the borrower and the transaction.
Why Business-Loan Demand Is Increasing
Companies seek capital for many different reasons. Some need additional liquidity to manage payroll, inventory or seasonal fluctuations. Others are financing equipment purchases, expansion plans, acquisitions or new contracts.
Refinancing can also drive demand. A business may need to replace an existing obligation, extend its repayment schedule or reorganize several short-term debts into a more manageable structure.
In each case, the company is competing for lender attention and balance-sheet capacity.
As more borrowers enter the market, lenders have more transactions from which to choose. A clear, properly documented request is therefore more likely to receive serious consideration than an application that leaves important questions unanswered.
Stable Standards Should Not Be Confused With Easy Credit
Banks continue to examine the same fundamental issues when evaluating a commercial loan request:
Historical and current cash flow
Existing leverage and repayment obligations
Available liquidity
Personal and business credit
Collateral
Industry and concentration risk
Management experience
The proposed use of the capital
A profitable company can still experience difficulty if its request falls outside a bank’s credit policy, requires an accelerated closing or involves a structure the institution does not typically provide.
A lender may also approve the borrower but offer less capital than requested. The company could then be required to contribute additional cash or search for another source to complete its financing plan.
An approval that fails to provide sufficient proceeds may not solve the company’s actual need.
Preparation Matters in a More Competitive Market
Business owners should understand exactly what they are requesting before approaching a lender or funding provider.
A complete financing package should generally include current financial statements, recent interim results, business bank statements, an existing debt schedule and a clear description of how the proceeds will be used.
The company should also be prepared to explain how the financing will improve its position and what source of cash flow will support repayment.
This does not mean every business must fit a conventional bank model. It means the request should be presented to the part of the capital market that can realistically evaluate and fund it.
Bank Financing Is Not the Only Option
Traditional bank credit remains an excellent option for companies that meet conventional underwriting requirements and have sufficient time to complete the process.
Other businesses may require a different financing structure because of their timing, collateral, transaction complexity or intended use of proceeds.
Available business financing structures can include:
Asset-backed credit facilities
Equipment financing
Accounts-receivable financing
Revenue-based financing
SBA-backed acquisition loans
Bridge capital
Senior secured term loans
Structured working-capital facilities
For established businesses seeking between $250,000 and $5 million, Fasty Funding’s Nationwide Business Capital $250K–$5MM program supports qualified growth, acquisition, recapitalization, equipment, inventory, contract-mobilization and liquidity requirements.
The most appropriate option depends on the company’s financial profile and objectives. The lowest advertised rate is not necessarily the best solution if the financing provides insufficient proceeds, creates an unrealistic payment obligation or cannot close within the required timeframe.
Matching the Transaction With the Right Platform
Different capital needs require different capabilities.
Fasty Funding focuses on nationwide working capital and business financing for established operators seeking speed, flexibility and direct communication.
Larger or more complicated transactions—including structured capital, commercial real estate financing, recapitalizations and time-sensitive bridge requirements—may be coordinated through Fast Commercial Capital.
Business acquisitions, ownership transitions, succession planning and exit-strategy engagements may involve Alianza Partners.
Real estate investors and operators can access specialized property-financing resources through America’s Loan Source and the America’s Loan Source resource platform.
These specialized brands operate within the broader Medro Advisors capital and transaction advisory ecosystem led by Don McClain.
This integrated structure helps direct each financing request toward the platform most closely aligned with the borrower, asset and transaction.
What Business Owners Should Do Now
The Federal Reserve’s latest lending survey confirms that capital remains available, but companies should approach the market with realistic expectations.
Before requesting financing, business owners should:
Define the amount and intended use of the capital.
Organize current financial and operating information.
Identify potential underwriting weaknesses.
Compare multiple financing structures.
Consider whether a traditional bank or an alternative capital source is the more realistic option.
Evaluate the total financing structure—not simply the stated interest rate.
As more companies seek credit, preparation and access to appropriate funding relationships will become increasingly important.
